Roanoke Island Shellabration & BBQ

The Roanoke Island Historical Association (RIHA) is proud to announce the first year of this brand new event. The Inaugural Shellabration and BBQ event will take place November 2nd, 2025 at the Safe Harbor Marina and Tiki Bar. This event is sponsored, in part, by a grant from the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau.
Get ready to enjoy an afternoon among the boats in Wanchese at this new event, brought to you by the team that has hosted The Lost Colony Wine & Culinary Festival for seven years!
You’ll have the opportunity to sample oysters from NC Growers, BBQ from Pigman’s, and other regional food specialties. Shucked, roasted, and fried oysters, plus local shrimp, chowders, biscuits, and desserts will be served.
Entertainment will include live music by the Blue Crab Boys and a special Pow Wow presentation performed by Indigenous cast members of The Lost Colony.
The ticket price is $95, includes all food and two drink tickets, along with live music and a raffle. There is plenty of parking available, and please note that all guests must be at least 21 years old.

The Shellabration & BBQ takes place at Safe Harbor Tiki Bar at the Wanchese Marina. The event itself will be outdoors, under a large tent.
Oysters
We’ll be serving oysters from across the North Carolina coast. Get ready to experience your oysters fried, raw, steamed, baked, and more. We’ll be featuring 6 different oyster stations representing different North Carolina oyster farms.

Shrimp
North Carolina is famous for it’s shrimp, so get ready to taste some of freshest shrimp on the East Coast. We’re proud to be working with local shrimpers to provide the best shrimp around.
BBQ
Pigman’s BBQ will be on site all day preparing traditional Eastern Carolina BBQ.
Chowder
If it’s cool day in November, you can always count on Johanna’s to warm you up. She’ll be serving a variety of chowders to savor throughout the day.
The Blue Crab Boys, an acoustic country band that are favorites among Locals here in the Outer Banks, will be playing all day long!
In the middle of the day, we’ll be hosting a Powwow performed by members of the cast of The Lost Colony. The powwow will showcase different styles of Native Dancing from all across Indian country, including Eastern Woodland, Smoke, Warrior, and more.
