(Manteo, NC, February 19, 2008) – Rick Gray, Vice
President and manager of the Kill Devil Hills office of
Cooperative Bank recently presented a $5,000 check
towards the Costume Shop Replacement fund to The Lost
Colony’s Ken Keating, and Carl V. Curnutte. “We’re
so thankful that Cooperative Bank and the Outer Banks
community have joined together in support of The Lost
Colony—America's story,” said Carl V. Curnutte, The Lost
Colony Executive Director and Producer. “Gray’s personal
involvement with the drama makes this gift especially
meaningful to the organization.”
Gray is a former Board Member the Roanoke Island
Historical Association, a position he held for 9 years.
He served as Board Chair from 2002-2004. “Cooperative
Bank feels a close kinship with The Lost Colony and is
especially proud to join the community in is efforts to
restore the costumes and costume shop,” says Gray. “The
Lost Colony is such a dynamic landmark of the Outer
Banks, a landmark that needs to continue onward.”
Cooperative Bank’s gift will assist in the content
replacement of the Costume Shop as well as the
maintenance and storage buildings destroyed in the early
September fire. Items that were lost include sewing
machines, washing machines, dryers, props, office
equipment, and costumes, among other items vital to the
production of the show.
Efforts are already underway to rebuild the shop and its
contents in preparations for the 71st Anniversary Season
opening on May 30th, 2008. Upon a recent visit to The
Lost Colony construction site, Gray remarked, “having
seen the new costume shop and the designs for the new
costumes, I can hardly wait for opening night. The
upcoming season should prove to be one of the most
exciting. I look forward to it, as does all of our
community.”

nation’s premier and longest-running symphonic drama and
has been seen by millions. It also serves as the proud
training ground of today’s young theatrical talent.
Written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paul Green,
The Lost Colony’s 71st anniversary season opens May 30th
and plays nightly except Saturday through Aug. 20, 2008
